Education for a better self, community and the world.

Ms. Rajrani

Founder Trustee

Our founding trustee was Ms. Rajrani. Coming from very humble roots, an illiterate woman who was married at a tender age, widowed when she was still relatively young, mother to six daughters and two sons – she experienced the transformative potential of education first hand. She encouraged her children to dream big, taught them that there was no substitute to hard work and supported them in all possible ways to the best of her ability. All her children went on to be trailblazers in their chosen fields. Ms. Rajrani wanted to extend this same opportunity to all children which led her to conceptualise a Trust in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, a place where she had spent a large part of her life.  One fine October morning in 2001, Sitapur Shiksha Sansthan (Trust) Sitapur, was born.  It was this imagination, fortitude and will of a frail looking but stronger than steel octogenarian lady that has over the last twenty years turned the lives of hundreds of students and changed the very contours of Sitapur. Amma, as she was fondly called, continues to live in our hearts and motivates us to consolidate and take her legacy forward.

Mr. Lalit Kishore Mehrotra

Founder Chairman
Like mother, like son. If Amma imagined the Sansthan, her son and our founding Chairperson, Mr. Lalit Kishore Mehrotra, gave her concept an existential reality and breathed energy and hope in the very brick and mortar of the Sansthan. When most people opt for a rocking chair, he took charge of the Sansthan and built it into a marathon movement of bringing affordable education within the reach of all and to use this education for social, economic and political change in our society. A social entrepreneur to the core, it was under the leadership of Chief Sir, as he was fondly called, that the Sansthan achieved its zenith – offering technical, professional and vocational courses; creating direct and indirect employment opportunities for hundreds; enabling crucial infrastructure for the town such as banking, internet and sports facilities; showcasing local crafts etc. He worked day and night to make the Sansthan one big, happy and successful family — the Sansthan was his labour of love. His larger than life presence is still alongside us, pushing and guiding us to scale ever new heights but to also always remain rooted in values of humility, compassion and service.
